Can Cipro cause tendon rupture like Levaquin? I have a UTI and was wondering if anyone knows if it is safe to take Cipro because I don't want tendon damage? Is this the same as Levaquin?

jandy replied: "can be similar, with muscle pains not alleviated by motrin, can cause brusing on back of legs/knee areas, neck/tendon pop (I've had both) usually achilles tendon. usually long term use greater than 6 wks. Or repeated doses throughout the year/past few years. It'll clear your UTI, if it doesn't, get recultured within a week or if sx return sooner."

i have been on levaquin for 21 days, sharp pains in shoulders, kidneys! is it tendon inflammation or rupture? how can i distinguish between a rupture or just inflammation, CAN MY KIDNEYS FAIL AND RUPTURE FROM LEVAQUIN? pls help me!!!

LP2000 replied: "You should call a doctor or nurse ASAP. Antibiotics can cause kidney failure and other side effects. Your symptoms could be just inflammation and soreness from being sick, but you should check with a doctor to make sure it's not more serious."

Tendon ruptures and disabilities caused from taking levaquin...? My doctors prescribed me a drug that causes a risk for tendon ruptures and disabilities. Im taking this for a chronic sinusitis. Is this really worth it? Are there any other alternatives for this?

Mr. Why replied: "Sure. Live with the chronic sinusitis. There's a one in ten thousand chance of a tendon rupture taking the medicine. There's a 100% chance of chronic sinus problems without treatment. Which is worse to you? That being said, there probably are many better alternatives than Levaquin for chronic sinusitis, unless you've actually had a sinus culture that grew out bacteria resistant to everything except Levaquin (I doubt it). Treating the inflammation with nose sprays or sinus rinses is a good place to start. Using an antihistamine would make sense if allergies are causing it. Using an ant-acid would make sense if extra-esophageal reflux disease is contributing to it. Using a steroid to take down the inflammation is an alternative. Using an antifungal medicine may also be appropriate. There are a bazillion choices out there. But don't use the "I'm afraid of the side effect" excuse to not take a medicine. That's like not taking your paycheck to the bank because you're afraid that maybe you'd drop it on the way. Sure, both are possible, but what are the consequences of the alternative?"

Neurosurg replied: "Hi dooblet.com suggests to learn about alternatives for levaquin in the following order: ***** cipro **** zithromax **** avelox * tequin * bactrim * levofloxacin * augmentin * omnicef * biaxin ciprofloxacin DISCLAIMER: myself, I have no idea about drugs other then aspirin! :) you may want to play around with dooblet, it finds alternatives to very unexpected things have a nice day!"
